Did you know that a hundred years ago, Charles Napier said, "One day she will be the Queen of the East" about Karachi. It was then a small village, but today Karachi bursts as a vast commercial and industrial center. |
In 1725, the place where Karachi stands was a barren piece of land, washed on three sides by the blue waters of the Arabian Sea.
A few fishermen lived in a small huts on the sunny creek. There was a pool of water on this barren piece of land which was known as Kalachi-jo-Kun. Kalachi was the name of fisherman whereas kun meant a deep kitch. Therefore, "Kalachi-jo-Kun" meant the deep ditch of Kalachi, the fisherman. |
More recently, Karachi has gained a place in aviation history. Many an aviator of yore remembers flying to Karachi, an airport that holds an inviolable niche in the legendary annals of early flying. Perhaps one of the most famous flyers to touch down in Karachi was Amelia Earhart, who in 1932 was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. More about Karachi, please visit KARACHI Profile
